Questions and Answers about the Project:

Complete details about the project are provided in the Consent Form. As new questions arise that are not covered there, we will post responses below on this page.

If your question is still not answered, you may submit a question by choosing a support option on the Contact Us page. We will attempt to respond either directly or on this page, but we cannot guarantee a direct personal response.

Once you join the project additional instructions are provided on each page and in the SMARTNotes that accompany the SMARTLog.

Previously Asked Questions and Answers:

How will I know if I am accepted into the study?
You are automatically accepted when you submit the application form.
There is no further confirmation needed. You can begin using the site immediately, with the username and password you chose for the application form.

I have forgotten my username or password. What should I do?
Click on the "Forget username or password?" link on the home page, and we will help you retrieve them. We encourage you to write these down in a safe place in case you forget them again. Consider putting them on a sticky note on the side of your computer. (The most common problem we are seeing is that people forget their username or password.)

What if I need to be away from my computer or don't have consistent access to a computer? Can I still participate?
Yes. You can print out hard copies of the SMARTLog form and complete one for each day that you are away from the computer. Then when you have access again, you can enter the responses for each day into a fresh SMARTLog form. After you click "Submit", you can then come back to the SMARTLog page and submit a new one for another day. You don't need to worry about dates, because your database will work with the number of days you add, and doesn't care about specific dates.

What if I have trouble remembering enough details to complete my SMARTLog?
You can print out a hard copy to carry with you through the day and record responses as you go. But of course you have to remember to keep the SMARTLog form handy! Then in the evening you can enter the responses on the website.

Can I leave the SMARTLog open all day and make entries throughout the day?
No. Your "Login Session" has a four-hour time limit. After four hours, you will lose any entries that were waiting to be submitted. The SMARTLog should be completed in one sitting, or at least within a four-hour period. If you need help with remembering your responses through the day, it is best to print a hard copy to fill in as you go.

What's the best time to complete the SMARTLog?
Ideally, the evening before bed. However, the most important thing is that you are consistent with whatever 24-hour period you are using. So, bedtime Monday to bedtime Tuesday to bedtime Wednesday would work.
But, bedtime Monday and then noon Tuesday and noon Wednesday would not work, because your SMARTLog entries would not represent comparable 24- hour periods. Find a routine time that works for you and be consistent with it.

What if I have difficulty understanding what to do?
We need to know this, because we are developing the site to be as user-friendly and helpful as possible. We want this to be an effective tool for people who want to improve their health. Please click the Contact tab and send a message about your question or difficulty. This will not only help you, but will help us help others too!
